Culture & Heritage

image

Woods County’s culture and heritage venues are numerous and make for pleasant family outings that are entertaining and informative.
The Mission Style Harvey House and Depot in the town of  Waynoka has been completely restored to its original grandeur.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University
is located in Alva and, as in most university towns, there are numerous opportunities to participate in a wide variety of cultural events, such as the annual Northwestern Concert Series and theater productions.
The downtown square in Alva is home to the newly built Graceful Arts Gallery & Studios, a feather in our cap for an emerging arts scene locally! The downtown square also includes the ACT I Theater, a long standing favorite venue for the community thespians and audiences . The historic Runnymede Hotel is a community treasure! It serves as a cultural icon for the community and is located on the northeast corner of the downtown square.
The town of Freedom will take you back to the Wild West with its western store-fronts lining Main Street and its “historic jail”!
Alva is home to a unique collection of public murals throughout town, depicting the eras marking the growth of Northwest Oklahoma and moments in Alva's history.
